08-10-2012 to 27-10 2012 : Logistical
support given to Technical Advisory Committee of WRD Bihar, Bihar to

20-06-2012 to 02-07-2012 : A
four member team led by Joint Director FMISC visited to get a first
hand knowledge about the recent development in the field of Laves
inspection, maintenance and construction adopted by USACE and USGS
which are the lead organization engaged in flood management
activities in USA.
Workshop on ‘International Approaches to Manage and Plan Embankment Assets’
was organized from 17-10-2011 to 20-10-2011 at Hotel Chanakya,
Patna.
A four days workshop on ‘International
Approaches to Manage and Plan Embankment Assets’ was organized from
17-10-2011 to 20-10-2011 at Hotel Chanakya, Patna. The workshop was
attended by chairmen of Flood Fighting Force and departmental Engineers.
The trainees were experts from United States Army Corps of Engineers
(USACE) who imparted the use of latest technology e.g. use of tablet PC
with GPS and shared their international experiences in the field of
Embankment inspection.
The workshop was jointly inaugurated by
Dr. Winston Yu, Task Team Leader, World Bank, Mr. Allan Tamm and Dr.
Padmakar Shrivastva, experts from USACE.
The workshop formally ended on
19-10-2011. Mr. Afzal Amanullah, Principal Secretary, WRD, Bihar
addressed the formal concluding session and expressed his happiness for
organizing such workshop.
The workshop ended with vote of thanks
by Er. A.K. Samaiyar, Joint Director, FMISC.
The participants met on 20th
October 2011 to discuss and formulate over inspection checklist
specially designed for Bihar.
Earlier, a two days visit and inspection
of Embankments under Bagmati-Adhwara basin was done by World Bank
officials with experts from USACE during 15-16 October 2011.
Application of GIS and Remote Sensing in River Training on 13 September 2011.
A workshop on 'Application of G.I.S and Remote Sensing in River Training was organised on 13.09.2011 in FMISC. The workshop was ateended
by Hon. Minister, WRD, Mr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Mr. Afzal Amanullah, Pricipal Secretary, WRD, Govt. of Bihar and Chairmen of Flood Fighting Force. The day long workshop deliberated upon the status of various rivers through satellite images ad application of GIS & RS.
The workshop ended with vote of thanks by Er. Ajit Kumar Samaiyar, Joint Director, FMISC.
Training workshop on Tools and Techniques for flood forecasting and modelling (series-1) was held during 6th Dec. -10th Dec. 2010

State Level Workshop held on 16th May 2008 at WALMI
The Workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister, Water Resources Department Mr. Bijendra Prasad Yadav and chaired by Mr. Ajay Nayak, Secretary, Water Resources Department.
The objective of this Workshop was to communicate the FMIS products to different stakeholders departments and users, Officials from Water Resources Department, Disaster Management and Agriculture Department along with Rtd Engineer-in-Chief Mr. K. N. Lal, Rtd Eng.-in-Chief and advisor WRD Mr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Rtd Chief Engineer Mr. Suresh Chandra Sinha and Advisor WRD Mr. Braj Bhushan Prasad Singh participated in the Workshop.
Mr. Ajay Nayak, Secretary, Water Resources Department informed that through the efforts of the FMISC, Water Resources Department is now in a position to give rainfall forecast for 72 hours in advance and through the assistance of Remote Sensing Technology, it is being attempted to forecast about the possibility of inundation in different areas in advance. He further informed that in Phase II of the project attempts will be made to develop Flood Forecast Model.
Shree Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Hon’ble Minister, Water Resources Department Govt. of Bihar said that the definition of disaster in Bihar differ vastly from what it prevails in other parts of the World. In the context of the geographical location of Bihar, flood is unavoidable and people treat it as a relative who will keep visiting and instead of panicking about the impending flood. We should learn to live with it. He praised the efforts of FMISC and said that in mitigating the negative impacts of flood its products will be of immense use.

Technical Workshop
on Flood Management in Bihar on 28th - 29th
March 2008
Technical Workshop on Flood Management in Bihar was held on 28th
– 29th March 2008 in Patna in which the contours of
appropriate flood management strategy in Bihar were discussed. The
Workshop was inaugurated on 28th March 2008 at Hotel Maurya,
Patna by Mr. S. Vijayraghawan, I.A.S., Development Commissioner, Govt.
of Bihar. The second day session of the Workshop on 29th
March 2008 was held at FMIS Cell, Jal Sansadhan Bhawan, Anisabad, Patna.
The Workshop was enriched by the participation of Flood Management
experts from World Bank and also two international experts from Mexico
and China. Participants shared their experiences in Flood Management. On
2nd day, proposed activities for FMIS, Phase-II were
discussed in the presence of Mr. Ajay Nayak, IAS, Secretary, WRD, Bihar.

Website Hosting in FMIS Cell on
26th
March 2008
The
Website of FMIS Bihar, developed in-house at FMIS Cell under Water
Resources Department, Govt. of Bihar was inaugurated by Mr. Ramashraya
Prasad Singh, Hn’ble Minister, WRD and parliamentary affairs on 26th
March 2008. Departmental Secretary, Mr. Ajay Nayak, Mr. Devi Rajak, Eng.
In Chief (N), Mr. D. K. Singh, Eng. In Chief (C) and other senior
officers of the Department were present in the inauguration. The Hn’ble
minister expressed that it is a golden day for WRD, and expressed his
pleasure and honor as this website is built in-house and this will
connect the whole world exchanging information about the flood related
information. He reiterated that the future belong to the information
system in which the role of internet and website is very important.

Main issues :
Released a volume of hard and soft copy maps prepared by FMISC for flood season 2007 customized for (i) Water Resources department & (ii) Disaster Management & Agriculture Department. The utility of satellite imaginary for Development planning explained by exper.
Stake holders and consultant workshop held at FMISC, Taramandal, Patna on 21st June, 07
It was chaired by Principal Secretary DMD, Senior Water Resources Specialist World Bank, GIS Specialist World Bank, NRSA Scientist, ADG IMD New Delhi, Senior Officers of CWC Patna, GFCC Patna, World Bank Consultant & Officers from WRD Patna.
Main issues :
FMIS cell presented the first flood inundation map developed by FMIS cell based on satellite image IRS-1D, LISS-III captured on June 2007. Various issues relating to TORs were discussed.
Training
- Two officers trained on “Flood mapping & damage assessment in ERDAS & Arc GIS environment” for ten days at CSIT, JNTU, Hyderabad.
- Three officers trained on “Introduction to GIS and its application” at NRSA Hyderabad from 9.4.07 to 4.5.07.
- 5 officers trained on “ERDAS IMAGINE software(Professional , vector , virtual GIS)” from 20th March 2007 to 23rd March 2007.
- 6 officers trained on ARC GIS software (Vendor Training)

World Bank Aided Projects (21st Jan 08 to 1st
Feb 08)” at Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI),
Hyderabad.
